"Indian Test stalwart Cheteshwar Pujara announces retirement from international cricket. A key figure at No. 3 after Rahul Dravid, Pujara leaves behind a legacy of grit, resilience, and unforgettable performances."
After Rahul Dravid, the one who held India’s No. 3 position in Test cricket for the longest time, Cheteshwar Pujara has officially announced his retirement from cricket today. He shared this news through a post on his X (formerly Twitter) account. In the post, he also shared two images in which he reflected on his journey—from dreaming about playing cricket to the end of his career—while expressing gratitude to everyone who supported him along the way. We’ve uploaded those images here for you to read if you wish.
The 38-year-old Pujara made his debut in 2010 and went on to play 103 Tests and 5 ODIs for India. In Tests, he scored 7,195 runs at an average of 43.60, including 19 centuries and 35 half-centuries. However, in ODIs, he managed only 51 runs from 5 matches at an average of 10.20, with a highest score of 27.
After Rahul Dravid, Pujara was considered India’s most dependable No. 3 Test batsman. He will forever be remembered—not only by Indian cricket fans but by cricket lovers around the world—for his resilience during the Sydney Test, where he fought through injury to help secure a draw, and again in the Gabba Test, where his gritty innings played a key role in India’s historic series win in Australia. His contributions to India’s Test series victory Down Under will never be forgotten by fans or the Indian cricket team.
His last Test match was in the 2023 World Test Championship Final at The Oval. Since then, he hasn’t featured in the Test side. In recent times, Pujara had also started appearing as a commentator.
Post-retirement, we hope Cheteshwar Pujara enjoys a joyful and fulfilling life with his family. That is the sincere wish of our entire team.
