5 Major Reasons for Low Student Enrollment in Government Schools.
1. Shortage of Teaching and Non-Teaching Staff:-
One major reason for low student enrollment in government schools is the shortage of teachers. In many schools, the number of teachers is less than required, which directly affects the quality of education. Even the non-teaching staff is insufficient in government schools. Although we may not pay much attention to it, students do notice everything and share their observations with their parents. On the other hand, private schools usually have adequate teaching and non-teaching staff, which attracts parents toward them. Parents believe that the more staff available in a school, the better attention their children will receive. However, the government continues to make efforts to fill these gaps. Recently, the Odisha government announced the recruitment of 45,000 new teachers.
2. Maintaining Social Status:-
In our country, almost all middle-class families prefer sending their children to private schools. Upper-middle-class and rich families send their children only to private schools. It is rare to find children from high-class families studying in government schools. Nowadays, sending kids to private schools has become a symbol of maintaining high social status. Even lower-middle-class families are gradually getting influenced by this trend and have started enrolling their children in private schools.
3. Becoming Smart and Speaking Fluent English:-
Some parents believe that even if their children don't score high marks in private schools, at the very least, they will become smart and fluent in English. Whether this belief is entirely true or not is up for discussion but many parents strongly believe in it.
4. Better Management of Activities:-
Parents feel that private schools manage not only academics but also exams, competitions, sports, study tours, group activities, functions, and picnics in a well organized and timely manner. While some parents may not fully agree with this point, it still remains a significant reason for many others.
5. Better Environment:-
Parents believe that the overall environment in private schools is far superior to that of government schools. From school buildings, water facilities, gardens, playgrounds, libraries, AC computer labs, indoor stadiums to cleanliness, everything is well maintained in private schools. This creates a better atmosphere for children. In contrast, such facilities are often poorly maintained or lacking in government schools.
