England smashes T20 record with 304/2 vs South Africa – highest ever by a Test nation! Salt’s 141 steals the show.

The second T20 match between England and South Africa, played yesterday at Old Trafford, turned out to be a historic one for the England team and their fans. England's batsmen rained boundaries and sixes throughout the innings. England won the match by a massive margin of 146 runs.

Match Summary

Batting first, England posted a record-breaking total of 304 runs for the loss of just 2 wickets in 20 overs. This is now the highest T20 score by any Test-playing nation. Phil Salt scored the most runs for England, smashing 141 runs off just 60 balls, which included 15 fours and 8 sixes. This is now the highest individual T20 score by an England player. Alongside him, Jos Buttler played an explosive innings, scoring 83 runs off just 30 balls, with 8 fours and 7 sixes. Harry Brook also contributed with a quickfire 41 off 21 balls.

South African bowlers were severely punished by the England batters. Kagiso Rabada gave away 70 runs in his 4 overs without taking any wickets. Similarly, Williams conceded 62 runs in just 3 overs. The only somewhat successful bowler was Bjorn Fortuin, who took 2 wickets for 52 runs in his 4 overs.

In reply, South Africa were bowled out for just 158 runs. Captain Aiden Markram was the top scorer with 41 runs off 20 balls, including 4 sixes. Bjorn Fortuin also tried to resist with 32 runs off 16 balls, but it wasn’t enough to get close to the target.

England’s most successful bowler was Jofra Archer, who took 3 wickets for 25 runs. Sam Curran, Liam Dawson, and Will Jacks also picked up 2 wickets each. With this victory, England leveled the series. The first match was won by South Africa by 14 runs via the DLS method.

Highest T20 Score Record:

England’s score of 304 is the highest T20 score by any Test-playing nation. However, it is not the highest overall in international T20s. The record for the highest T20 international score is held by Zimbabwe, who scored 344 runs against Gambia in 2024. The second highest is by Nepal, who made 314 runs against Mongolia in 2023. However, since both Zimbabwe and Nepal are not currently Test-playing nations, England now holds the record for the highest T20 score among Test-playing teams. It remains to be seen which team will break this record in the future.

Thank you.
