Amid India-Pakistan Match Buzz, Anandkumar Velkumar Clinches India’s First Inline Skating Gold at World Championships.
Amid Headlines of India-Pakistan Match Boycott in the Asia Cup, a 22-Year-Old Youth from Tamil Nadu Creates History for the Nation. While the headlines are filled with talk of boycotting the India-Pakistan match in the Asia Cup, a 22-year-old youth from Tamil Nadu has created history for our nation. We are talking about Anandkumar Velkumar, who has won a Gold medal for India for the first time in the Inline Speed Skating Race (1000m sprint). He achieved this historic feat at the ongoing World Athletics Championships in Japan. Earlier in the same tournament, he had also won a bronze medal in the 500m sprint race. This morning, the Honourable Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, congratulated and praised Anandkumar on the social media platform ‘X’.
Anandkumar Velkumar was born on January 19, 2003, and hails from the state of Tamil Nadu. He is currently studying Computer Science at the College of Engineering, Guindy. Velkumar was the first Indian to win a silver medal in the 15 km elimination event at the 2021 Junior World Championships. Traditionally, this sport has been dominated by American and European athletes, but this time, Anandkumar Velkumar has posed a serious challenge to Western players by winning two back-to-back medals in the same tournament.
Necessary Encouragement
Undoubtedly, the feat achieved by Anandkumar Velkumar is a matter of pride for all of us. Now, it is our duty as well as Government to further encourage and support him. In the midst of cricket headlines, Anandkumar deserves a place in the headlines too. It is the responsibility of print media, electronic media, and social media to recognize and highlight his achievements. If sponsors also start paying attention to him, he could possibly bring many more medals for our country in the future.
Today, everywhere you look, the India-Pakistan match dominates conversations whether it’s about the boycott or something else, it’s all over the news. Hopefully, no one overlooks Anandkumar's importance, and in the future, he continues to make our nation proud through his performances.
